College Day

Another action by the Chamber Education Committee has been the development of a community stakeholder group of parents whose children are enrolled within area schools. This Stakeholder Group sub-committee meets regularly. It is through the work of the Stakeholder Group that the EdUp Campaign’s first large scale public activity, called “College Day,” was inspired.

College Day focuses the attention of children and their parents on considering going to college from a very young age. Research has demonstrated that support aimed at higher educational attainment is a powerful tool for getting children to aspire toward college attendance. The first area College Day was held on June 5, 2014.

Children spend College Day immersed in activities designed to bring dreaming and achieving to college attainment into their sphere. The Education Committee has made College Day part of its annual programming due to its initial success.
